Waste of time and money

This may be one of the worst technical books I have ever read. It is clear that the author has not taught or designed a curriculum before, and perhaps this is his first book. When I came to this piece, I was expecting a professional rundown, a small-but-similar-to-real-life example around which the author would explain best practices, and common problems such as user and role management, resource access, versioning, separation of concerns, reporting, instrumentation etc. Instead it is a 7 chapter lecture, wherein mostly different modules you "could" use are discussed and then abandoned to build an extremely thin "API" in the later chapters with no user management, very little security and automatic documenting using swagger. As a fellow engineer (and one who has written several APIs) this book is an embarrassment and waste of money. Strong avoid. Can I get a refund and my Sunday back?

Great primer for Node.js and REST

This book puts it all together - RESTful API, Node.js, modules, frameworks, working code. I really appreciated the historical perspective on REST and the chapter on API design best practices. If you are relatively new to Node.js, this book will help introduce you how to spin up a Node/REST application quickly.
