About the Author

Nedra Kline Weinreich is President of Weinreich Communications, a consulting firm that works with nonprofits and government agencies to help them bring about health and social change. Since 1992, she has developed social marketing and social media programs for clients such as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, National Institute for Child Health and Human Development, National Minority AIDS Council, Population Services International, Loyola University of Chicago and many others. Prior to her work with Weinreich Communications, Nedra designed health education and communication programs for public and private organizations. She earned her master’s degree in health and social behavior from the Harvard School of Public Health and teaches a course on social marketing at the UCLA School of Public Health. She offers in-person and online trainings via her Social Marketing University program, as well as customized workshops. Nedra lives in Los Angeles, California, with her husband Gil and children Ariel and Leora.

Terrific resource for nonprofits

I have used this resource with clients who have few resources and little experience in social marketing. It is a well written guidebook that explains the steps in developing social marketing strategies and provides well constructed worksheets. The book is extremely enlightening for organizations who are doing this for the first time or who cannot afford high-priced consultants. As a writer without much social marketing background, it helped me help my clients. It might be worth noting that the reference is designed for U.S. use and cites resources only available here, but I still found the basic approach helpful for an overseas client.

This work book is chock-filled with practical help for preparing an effective social marketing plan. I enjoyed the easy-to-use forms. Many great ideas for applying social marketing too. It's so hard to find resources that relate to the unique nature and challenges of this kind of marketing. If you are a non-profit change oriented social marketer you need this book on your shelf!

Good book, more develop on social marketing research would be useful

The book has a lot of what I was looking for in terms of the content. The author really did a wonderful job on putting into a simple perspective, key elements of social marketing, in a very easy-to-read way, and it really helps to put into practice the theory explained, with real and non-real examples. I would have liked that the author would have developed more the marketing research chapter, since it's really helpful to clarify this component of social marketing substantially more, specially for an organization which is getting into this field. Or perhaps, another specific book on social marketing research would be useful, unfortunately, I haven't found any.

A Home Run!

I bought this book for my husband because he's been stressed out, feeling overwhelmed at work, and just kind of down. He's been seeing a therapist, which has helped, but I thought this book, with "sport" in the title, would really appeal to him. Plus, I have to be honest, I love the cheerful bright yellow cover. My husband has been using some of the techniques in the book, like breathing, self-talking, and visualization, and his mood and outlook have improved immeasurably!! So...I started reading it and it's AMAZING! The author uses his work with elite athletes as a framework to show how to do better and feel better in everything you do, from working to parenting to socializing. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to improve their life and their outlook.

This book is outstanding. Dr. Fader's writing has a conversational feel that makes the reader feel very much like you're talking with him rather than reading. He does a great job of combining quality sport psyc concepts with quotes and stories that add to the reading experience. As someone relatively new to the sport psyc profession, I am always looking for quality material to read. This is one of the best out there in my opinion. There is a simplicity to the writing without sacrificing quality of actual psyc content that is difficult to attain. Great read!

Techno-Based Sharing Doesn't Create Barriers; It Removes Them

20 and 30 years ago, a lot of pundits worried out loud that the digital future would be a lonely one. One of those pundits was Faith Popcorn, whose negative picture of the future appalled the young Bryan Kramer. If you had any doubt that they were wrong, Bryan Kramer will set you right. He shows over and over again how the digital world *enables* a sharing mindset that--far from destroying connections--creates real connection among people who might never meet in person at all, or never meet without the technology platform (think AirBNB, Uber, etc.)

I've been part of the sharing economy since before it was digital, and I've experienced this personally in hundreds of ways, in dozens of sectors. For example, I love being in a live event with people I know from an online community. There's this wonderful phenomenon: 1. Read name tag. 2. Widen eyes and shriek an excited "It's you, in person!" or some variation. 3. Big hug. 4. A deep conversation because you can pass the first four or five levels of get-to-know-you chit-chat. I didn't even meet Jay Conrad Levinson, with whom I've co-authored one bestselling (Guerrilla Marketing Goes Green) and one forthcoming (Guerrilla Marketing to Heal the World) book, until the first book was done. I was actually at his house when he got his author copies.

2 books, really. Why sharing is important & how to do it and how to look at business communications through a filter of sharing.

Shareology is really two books in one. The first "book," comprised of the first 4 chapters is a how-to for getting started and being successful with social and digital media. Bryan Kramer does a really good job of defining the challenges and pitfalls as well as the value proposition of sharing. And it's not necessarily only for business. Bryan understands better than most the value of trust and authenticity in building not only your business brand but your personal brand as well, and that understanding the psychology and mechanics of sharing is a critical 21st century skill. It's this part of the book that I'd love to have everyone on my marketing and sales team read. And my high school age kids. And their friends. My parents. Everyone, really.

Bryan describes the second part of the book as "in the weeds" and indeed it is. It's a survey of everything the modern day marketer, salesperson and even customer service person should be aware of including tools, platforms, and metrics looked at through the filter of sharing along with plenty of examples and use cases. It's fairly comprehensive but at odds with the first part of the book in terms of tone and audience. This part is definitely for experienced salespeople or marketers, and deals with more complex topics like listening, scaling engagement, crisis management in digital media, real-time marketing and the good/bad/ugly of technology and automation in digital.

It reminds me of the old Saturday Night Live Commercial for Shimmer: "It's a floor wax/It's a dessert topping." Shareology is two books in one. Both really good. Both worth reading. But maybe not the same audience. Still, if your job involves communications, I recommend you read these...er...this book.

From the heart stopping narrative on the on the Need for Conditions on the Activation Functions, to the torrid account of Classes of Finite Pseudo-dimension, this is truly the most exhilarating and disturbing description yet of the mathematical foundations of machine learning. Aunque se trata de un libro algo interesante,no encontré relacion con el título del libro y la historia, la cual es confusa y con un tono de novela barata,la verdad es que esperaba obtener una mejor experiencia de este libro, no me desagradó del todo apesar que el final es bastante malo en mi opinión, por el costo del libro la verdad que en realidad no vale la pena.
