Greg O'Connor is founder and chief instructor of Aikido Centers of New Jersey/Aikido Centers Inc. Dedicated to Aikido for over 30 years he is one of the few full-time professional Aikido teachers in the United States. This is a straight forward, informative source of information
for those interested or newly started in the study of
Aikido. It details proper etiquette, procedure, and
explains many of the minor details of being an Aikidoka
(student) that your sensei may assume you already know.
O'Conner makes many good comparisons, and moves through the
rudimentary aspects of training in Aikido at a speed that
anyone can understand.

Great start for Aikido beginners

As a beginner in Aikido, I found the book helpful in demystifying some of the etiquette and language, as well as providing a good backround on the sport and some of the philosopy. I would recommend it to any beginner and expect that it will remain on the bookshelf as a reference to many of the terms used in Aikido.

Wonderful book, as usual

I haven't finished reading it yet, but I want to review this before I forget. Just like her other three books, this one is filled with on the ball, easy to understand, humorous, succinct, and direct wisdom relating to everyday life. Gila has the unique capacity of translating lofty ideas into bite-sized and zesty-tasting paragraphs. What a skilled author and rare thinker. I highly recommend this book as I do all her other books. Filled with many ideas that will enhance your view of the world, it is quick and digestible.

As a guy whose about to get married, Gila opened my eyes to a lot of concepts that were familiar to me, but not clear. I now have a much better understanding of concepts such as tsnius and shomer negiah. It really gave me a whole new appreciation, and I hope to buy and read all of her other books.
